Where life took me after TF South |
Attended University of Illinios in Champaign-Urbana where I met my first wife, Carol, who hailed from Mattoon, IL. We first settled in Posen, IL while I worked in the Chemical Engineering Division at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, IL. …In 1965 we left the midwest for good when I accepted a position as a Research Assistant at IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, (Westchester County/Hudson Valley) NY. In mid-1966. I helped found an IBM Credit Union; serving as a volunteer director and officer; opening its first office; and helping establish its operations. I enjoyed the administrative, technical and finance challenges and decided on a career change. I moved into administrative and finance roles in IBM’s East Fishkill, NY plant. …In 1970 I left IBM when I was elected full-time President/CEO of the Credit Union where I stayed until my retirement in 2000. They were exciting decades as the credit union industry and technology changed and grew rapidly. From it’s original $50 and 10 members, the credit union grew to three quarters of a billion dollars and 50,000 members worldwide over those years. Evolving from just simple savings accounts and car loans to the full range of consumer financial services including checking, credit cards, mortgages, business loans, multi-state offices and brokerage subsidiaries, the ever changing financial, regulatory and technological environment kept me busy. …To be closer to my office, we moved to Greenwich, CT in 1988. Sadly, Carol passed away in 1992 shortly after we returned from a trip to Australia. …In 1996 I married Ceal and after my retirement, we moved to Lithia, FL (about 25 miles southeast of the Tampa, FL airport) in 2006. With the availablity of year around flying weather, I purchased a small plane which I keep hanagered nearby for leisurely flights over the Florida landscape. |

My fondest memories of life at TF South |
As one of the shortest members of the Class of 1959, I necessarily looked up to all my classmates. Starting class at 7:30 am while at North after a very early morning bus ride. Then the dark trip home after football practice (I was equipment manager), other activities, dances, or meetings. Band was a favorite period (though I wasn’t very good) and Latin was the hardest. Generally treated kindly as a class mascot because of my size, I enjoyed a great relationship with the overwhelming majority of my classmates which brings fond memories even today. | |
